WILDLIFE
There is the big five on the Ranch although rhino are hard to see as they live in very dense cover. There are resident elephant mainly bulls. Oryx and gerenuk, which are usually associated with Northern Kenya can also be seen. Other wildlife includes cheetah, lion, leopard, hyena, jackal, bat-eared fox, ostrich, eland, giraffe, zebra, wildebeest, Thompson’s and Grant’s gazelle, and reed buck.

There are over 300 species of bird and over 900 species of plants on the Group Ranch.

ACTIVITIES AT OL DONYO WUAS

  • Game Viewing: Game viewing in open Land Rovers. Either full day, half day or night drives.
  • Drive or walk to a beautiful spot for sundowners; bush breakfast or bush dinners.
  • There are game viewing blinds on stilts a few kilometers away from the lodge from which you observe the game.
  • Walking: The country around Ol Donyo Wuas is ideal for walking as you have the choice of walking on the open plains or exploring the hills with its forests, fresh springs and lava tunnels/caves.
  • Horse riding: There are ten horses of varying size and temperament to suit any standard of rider to go on either morning and/or evening rides or full day rides with a picnic returning to the lodge for the night.

There is an option of horse safaris for the more experienced riders, which involves camping with the horses and mobile tents for 3 – 5 days.

Fly camping: Camping out for one or two nights with a mobile-tented camp either with horses, on foot or by open vehicle.

Culture: Visits the Maasai villages of Mbirikani Group Ranch to experience ther rich and ancient culture.
